The Protocol: Strength Training Inside a Metabolic Window
Every session at the facility is built as a single, unified arc — not a workout with an optional wellness add-on, but a deliberate two-phase protocol where each stage amplifies the next. Phase one is strength training: one-on-one or two-on-one, with individually designed programming tracked through a shared mobile platform. Phase two is contrast therapy — alternating cold immersion and heat, entered immediately after training ends. The sequence is not interchangeable. Order and timing are essential to the design.
The origin of this model is personal. A client arrived having been misdiagnosed with ALS — nerve damage traveling up both legs, paired with restless leg syndrome that left sleep nearly out of reach. That diagnosis prompted a deep investigation: into the physiology of cold-water therapy, into inflammation and nerve recovery, into the engineering of the equipment itself. Research that began as an act of care for one person became the structural foundation for how the entire facility now operates.
The centerpiece of the cold phase is the Frost Chamber — a self-sustaining ice tub that chills and filters itself without requiring manual ice additions. An ozone filtration system runs continuously, maintaining water temperatures between 34 and 37°F with the precision of a commercial freezer. At those temperatures, cold acts as a primary physiological stimulus. The body's thermoregulatory response — the sustained effort to maintain core temperature against that chill — is where much of the protocol's metabolic work begins.
The sauna built to complement it reaches 220°F, and it is a custom-built traditional steam-stone unit, not infrared. The distinction matters to the protocol. The steam-stone format creates enveloping, full-body heat that generates rapid, genuine sweating in a way that infrared does not consistently replicate. For a protocol built around vascular response and extreme thermal contrast, that quality of heat is foundational.
The preference for traditional over infrared comes down to the nature of the signal. At 220°F with steam and stone, the body registers the environment immediately — the shift is sharp, complete, and unmistakable. In that sharpness lies the contrast. The 30-minute metabolic window that anchors this protocol asks the body to move between two extreme thermal states, and each must be extreme enough to produce the intended biological response.
Strength training elevates metabolism, mobilizes energy stores, and drives the body toward structural adaptation. Cold immersion and heat, entered immediately after that effort, extend and complete the process rather than interrupting it. Together, the two phases produce a compounded stimulus — one that neither phase creates alone. The session does not end with the last set. It ends in the sauna.
This is not how most training programs are designed. In most facilities, the workout ends and the client leaves. Here, the contrast phase is built into the session structure as an explicit deliverable — not a wellness amenity, but a physiological requirement. The 30-minute metabolic window is a claim about timing: that the body's state immediately after training creates an optimal window for the thermal stimuli to do their most meaningful work.
